The New Evangelization has had a mixed response from many Catholics. It is not unusual to hear how evangelizing is a “Protestant thing”. Many Catholics simply do not want to impose their faith on others, nor do they want to knock on doors spreading their faith. Our faith is a private matter to many.
Is our Catholic faith really a private matter? Are we supposed to keep it to ourselves so that we don’t impose it on others and possibly offend them?
If we do not share our faith with others, we are like a car without gas, going nowhere. However, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are driven to spread Jesus to others. Our spiritual tank is full and we are compelled to go in haste to bring Christ to others, to evangelize.
With prayer and the help of the Holy Spirit, our faith will take us places we never dreamed we could go. Just like a car with a full tank of gas, we can go far. We become evangelists sharing our love of Christ wherever we go
We are Catholic. By our baptism, we are called to evangelize, imitating the first evangelist, Mary, the Mother of God. When filled with Jesus, Mary went in haste to visit her cousin, Elizabeth. Mary was filled with Jesus and could not keep Him to herself. We must learn from Mary to bring Jesus to others, and to do so in haste.
Ponder: Do we recognize opportunities to evangelize to others?
Reflect: Sacred Scripture: Lk 14:23
Pray: Heavenly Father, send your Holy Spirit upon me to become the evangelist you want me to be.
