In Sacred Scripture we read, “And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” (Lk ‪2:12‬). Have you ever pondered upon this verse in Sacred Scripture? Why did the angel announce that Christ, the infant, would be found lying in a manger? Wouldn’t it have been a more tender image to find Him in His Mother’s arms? Why a manger?

The Miriam Webster dictionary defines manger as an open box in which food for farm animals is placed. When pondering upon this, we can reflect how Christ will become for us food for our earthly journey and our source of spiritual nourishment in the Eucharist. Finding Jesus in the manger makes perfect sense when we realize He will become the food for our souls.

We are Catholic.  Only in the Catholic Church can we receive our spiritual food, the Eucharist. Like a manger, the Church becomes the trough, which holds for us the Bread of Life, the Eucharistic Christ. We can always find the Eucharistic Lord, the Bread of Life, present in all tabernacles in the world in every the Catholic Church.

Ponder: How do you allow Jesus to be your source for nourishment in your daily life?

Reflection: Sacred Scripture, Lk ‪2:12‬

Prayer: Oh Blessed Mother of Jesus, help us to see Jesus in the manger as you saw Him
